From the humanitarian efforts of the "Constant Gardener" is a different film that is both about the past and the future, a culmination of the storylines of three separate films by the same filmmaker, and an inevitable expiration that dictates the film. The third and final u+a Best Film Award goes to Wong Kar-wai's "2046", a film in its pure and unapologetically escapist form in which every frame and all within it are immaculately, hyperbolically and breathtakingly beautiful.

"2046" may be a numeric reference to the eve to the end of Hong Kong's Special Administrative Region status to the People's Republic of China (in 1997 during Hong Kong's return to sovereignty, China promised the Special Administrative Region that it shall experience "50 years without change"). However, for Wong's film, 2046 is a hotel room number (both in this film and his previous film, "In The Mood for Love"), where a love-jaded, city nightlife, newspaper columnist in late 1960s Hong Kong pens an erotic sci-fi serial about people, based on people he has encountered in this hotel, returning to the year 2046 on a bullet train to locate a lost (happy/romantic) memory. >>
