Like many of Wong's films, the soundtracks are eclectic and multilingual similar to the dialogue lists which flow from Cantonese to Japanese, English to Mandarin, reflecting the cosmopolitanism of the cities in which they are set. "2046" is no different, and set within a Hong Kong hotel where cosmopolitan people and ideas traffic and intertwine momentarily, and at times, old baggage is left behind for a writer to find and release burdening secrets.
Wong's longtime collaborator for such films as "Chungking Express", "Happy Together", "In the Mood for Love", "2046", and "Eros" is Chris Doyle, who is the recipient of this year's u+a Lifetime Achievement Award. This world renowned cinematographer is recognized by his peers to be one of the most prolific and possessing a style most highly emulated by emerging directors of photography.
